Euro 2012 is basically the World Cup if only Europe was invited. On the one hand, that seems like a pretty solid group of teams (Spain, Germany, Italy, etc). On the other, we’re not really sure we can take a soccer tournament seriously if South America isn’t involved (I bet you thought we were going to stop that sentence after seriously).
Regardless, the tournament is on ESPN and is on constantly, so we’re going to have to accept it for the time being. And if TableTennisNation.com is going to watch an obscure event, we’re going to tell you who to root for, and against most of our better judgement it looks like England is the way to go. Why England?
Because the English team thinks they’ve solved all their problems with ping pong (or wiff waff as it’s sometimes called in England). Apparently during the World Cup in 2010, the English team struggled because they were bored and stuck in their hotel rooms. This time around, the same won’t be happening because new manager Roy Hodgson has provided a stocked game room featuring ping pong.
The Brits opened with a draw against a strong French team, so the ping pong seems to be helping a little. Not convinced? We have pics and video featuring the likes of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Theo Walcott…
