The young and promising American table tennis player Ariel Hsing lost to China’s Li Xiaoxia (the current number 2 player in the world) in yesterday’s Women’s singles table tennis match in London. The third round matchup wasn’t a blowout; luckily, Hsing was able to put up a strong two sets over Xiaoxia before she was finished off, 4-2. Among those in attendance for the match was Hsing’s friend and billionaire Bill Gates, who met Ariel when she was only nine years old. Greeting her after the match, Gates exclaimed, “You were amazing”.

Even after such a devastating loss, Hsing is keeping her hopes high. “I really wanted [the gold medal] … But I’ll have to wait for Rio in four years’ time”.
