The Olympics are coming and as we told you, Great Britain is going all in for table tennis, and thanks to a small rule change, many players have a renewed optimism.
In the 2012 Games in London, teams will only be able to enter 2 competitors in the Singles Competition instead of 3. What does this mean for the players? In the last few Olympics, China has swept the table tennis medals (in both the men’s and women’s competitions). With the rule change, however, at best China can win Gold and Sliver.
Paul Drinkhall of the British team wrote in The Telegraph how important this is for the sport and for the Bristish team. Table tennis can be a sport of pride and with the unquestionable Chinese dominance, the sport can become unattractive for other countries.
Meanwhile, Drinkhall and teammates like Darius Knight and training constantly and feel like the home crowds might help push them to a new level once the games start and maybe lead to Great Britain grab a medal in table tennis in 2012.
